Do you feel needed? Do you see the reason why you’re still here?

Look with us this week at why Paul chose to remain in the flesh.

Why Are You Still Here

Paul Knew Why

When I was a young mother, I pleaded with God: Please let me live long enough to raise my children; they need their mama.

Graciously, He honored that plea. But then I asked Him to let me live long enough to meet my grandchildren; they need a grandmother’s love. He’s answering that one now.

I’m currently asking Him to let me live long enough to see them grow up in Him. That’s still to come.

The apostle Paul had his reasons for wanting to live longer, too. He wanted his presence and faith to bring joy and increased faith to his Philippian brothers and sisters. He knew this; he was aware of it.

Why You?

Who needs you here?

Maybe you feel more needed during some seasons of life compared to other seasons. But whether or not you have people depending on you now in “critical” ways, be confident of this: If you’re still here, you still have purpose in the lives of others.

Be convinced that your work here is valuable. You are valuable. Your intentional presence in the lives of others for the glory of Christ is important.

Like Paul, you also can be a companion alongside others as they grow and trust in God. It helps them; it helps you.

And God is honored.

Memorize This Week

25 Convinced of this, I know that I will remain and continue with you all, for your progress and joy in the faith,
26 so that in me you may have ample cause to glory in Christ Jesus, because of my coming to you again.

I do know why. I have a brother who needs me after the passing of our mother. I have grandchildren who still need their grandmother’s love. I have a son who needs a mother’s loving Christian example before him because he does not believe.

Thank you for sharing the questions we can ask ourselves to measure some spiritual growth. I have to say that this memory challenge has definitely been one of the hardest challenges for me out of all of them I’ve done…and that’s been quite a few. I’m definitely taking it slower than where we should currently be. But as I go over and over and over the verses they are taking deep root in my heart and I am reaping joy from them, yes, some conviction, and most of all, understanding God’s grace more.

I so appreciate you, Dianna. You are definitely here for a purpose, not only for your family, but for many of us far and wide who are encouraged by your love for the Lord and your desire to shine His light in the lives of others.

This challenge has been difficult for me, too. I’ve attempted memorizing all of Philippians in the past, and while much of it didn’t stick in my memory, I trust that God used it then and is using it again now for us in Philippians 1 in all the ways we need it. I’m thankful for your faithfulness through so many of these memorizing journeys with us. Bless you, friend!
